I have a real love for the modest single family home of the 1950s. In the McMansion world of today, it is nice to remember that Lexington still plays host to many gems that may be modest in scale, but not on visual appeal. Just off Southland Drive, turn onto Rainbow Rd and travel mid-block to find mid-century. It’s that easy. The clean lines of this mixed facade home blend well into the traditional ranch houses along the street.

I’ve long been an admirer of this low slung commercial structure on Southland Drive. With a little imagination (remove the sea of asphalt), it would make a cool residence. Lexingtonians will remember it as the home of a prosthetics shop for many years. This is one of several interesting buildings along the Southland corridor that remains from the bustling days of the 1950s and 60s.
